The people of Ibiza have always felt very united to their traditions. Some of them are still preserved with great purity due to the isolation of the islands. The most popular and representative is "Ball pagés" (peasant's dance) which is a group of dances performed at ceremonies and local holidays.
These days still exist 20 colles (traditional dance groups) in Ibiza. Their members wear traditional costumes. The dances are about courtship in which the gentleman tries to conquest the lady's heart with his leaps while the women dressed in typical costumes with embroidered shawls and various skirts perform timid and slow movements.
